What is Magnesium Hydroxide?
Magnesium hydroxide is a white powdered compound precipitated from the reaction of dolomitic or high calcium quicklime and seawater. Magnesium hydroxide is commonly used as a component in antacids. While magnesium hydroxide does form in nature as the mineral brucite, it is regularly produced on an industrial scale.
Our Role in the Production of Magnesium Hydroxide
What We Do
Carmeuse and our affiliates support the needs of magnesium hydroxide manufacturers from End-2-End.
Magnesium is a key ingredient in the manufacturing of magnesium hydroxide, and the purity of the magnesium source has a direct impact on the quality of the final product. Carmeuse dolomitic quicklime is an effective source of magnesium for use in the production of magnesium hydroxide. High calcium quicklime can also be used in production.
By understanding your chemical and physical specifications, Carmeuse can recommend a product to meet the needs of your manufacturing process. Carmeuse is also able to provide lime handling equipment, including offloading, pneumatic conveying, and lime slaking systems to help maximize the efficiency of the entire process.
How it Helps
- High Magnesium Content – Dolomitic quicklime, chemically known as calcium magnesium oxide (CaO•MgO), is derived from limestone with 35% to 46% magnesium carbonate content. This helps ensure the maximum magnesium content and high reactivity for your process.
- Consistent Quality – Carmeuse lime products are routinely tested for quality and consistency, to ensure the right chemistry and physical properties for use in manufacturing processes.
Lime Slaking Systems & Upgrades
Over time, equipment at magnesium hydroxide manufacturing facilities may need updated or replaced due to normal wear and tear or for the integration of new technologies. Carmeuse supplies advanced equipment solutions for lime storage, handling, and slaking through Carmeuse Systems.
Our expert engineers can design the right solution to keep your production processes for plastics and rubber running smoothly, from new lime handling systems and slakers, to retrofits and upgrades for your existing equipment.
