Carmeuse Acquires Eucalyptus Tree Farm in Brazil
Strategic Move to Achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050
Carmeuse is proud to announce the acquisition of 2,300 hectares of land in the region of Formiga and neighboring cities in Brazil, another step in our journey towards decarbonization and carbon neutrality by 2050. This significant purchase, finalized in August 2024, aligns seamlessly with our business strategy focused on reducing CO2 emissions and ensuring sustainability.
The use of biomass reduces CO2 emissions by 30% compared to the use of fossil fuels. Furthermore, for each hectare of planted forest, Carmeuse will capture approximately 260 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere and the forestry assets acquired have a fixed carbon stock of 306 thousand tons.
Environmental Responsibility and Market Leadership
Carlos Avelar, CEO of Carmeuse Brazil, emphasizes the company’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges. “Carmeuse has been in the market for over 160 years, facing enormous challenges and opportunities, remaining faithful to our vision of contributing to a better world.”
These initiatives significantly enhance our competitive advantage as the market increasingly demands products and services with a low environmental impact. The acquisition of the forest area ensures a steady supply of biomass to our unit in Formiga, further solidifying our market position.
Looking Forward
We remain dedicated to pioneering solutions that reduce our environmental impact and contribute to a sustainable future. By constantly taking proactive steps towards a greener planet, we ensure long-term value and success for our company.
