"Hard to abate sectors such as lime are the backbone of the European industry. They need an efficient regulatory framework to achieve their decarbonation projects."
One year after the launch of the Antwerp Declaration, which set out the industry's vision for restoring Europe’s prosperity, 400 industry leaders from across Europe met in Antwerp to discuss the Clean Industrial Deal with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Commissioners in charge of industrial policy.
Tim Van den Bossche, CEO Carmeuse Europe Middle East and Asia, participated to the round table. He underlined the crucial need for Europe to maintain its competitive edge while transitioning to a sustainable industrial future:
💡Investments in CCUS technologies and infrastructure, as well as supportive regulatory frameworks and affordable low-carbon energy, are essential for the hard-to-abate sectors to moving forward.
💡In the lime sector, there is significant and unique potential to enhance the #recarbonation of products. However, current EU regulations do not recognize this opportunity, and there are no incentives to promote it. With our EU association EuLA, we are keen to engage in discussions with the Commission to explore how to fill this regulatory gap.
⏳ The time to act is now. Europe cannot afford to wait.
